Fire Department Membership Information:

The Avoca Fire Department is always recruiting volunteer professionals for a variety of positions within the organization.  Currently, there are three membership categories from which to choose:

Active Membership:   Active members are individuals who are age 18 or older, and either work or reside in Avoca Borough.  Active members are eligible to hold administrative or a line officer's position, as well as vote on departmental matters.  Members of the FD will receive professional-level training in all areas of emergency response.

Some of the roles that can be served by Active Members include:

  • Firefighter

  • Technical Rescue Specialist

  • Emergency Vehicle Operator

  • Fire Police

  • Fund Raising Activities

  • Administration

  • Public / Media relations

  • Photography

Associate Membership:  Associate Members can be individuals whom already belong to a volunteer fire / rescue organization in their home community, but wish to augment their experiences and training with a progressive, active department.  Due the volume of emergency responses, these individuals may gain additional experience in the fire service. Associate members cannot hold administrative or line officer positions, nor are they able to vote on departmental matters.

Junior Firefighter Membership:  The junior firefighter program is open to anyone between the ages of 14 through 18 who have an interest in the emergency services field.  The junior firefighter program has received much attention from the local media and other area departments due to its success.   While junior firefighters cannot actively participate in firefighting activities, junior firefighters are a very important part of our everyday activities.  From training to playing support roles on emergency incidents, junior firefighters are a vital resource to the department's regular members.

Avoca EMS Membership Information:

Volunteer Membership:  Individuals who work or reside in either Avoca or Dupont boroughs are eligible for membership.  The ambulance will accept anyone who is sixteen years of age or older.

Paid (part-time) Membership: The ambulance association will accept applications for the positions of driver and EMT for the daytime paid crew program.  All paid positions are part time only.  To be considered for a paid position, the applicant must possess the following certifications:  EMT or 1st Responder, current C.P.R., and an EVO certificate.

Any individual interested in joining either organization is encouraged to call the Emergency Services building at (570) 457-2894 or send an e-mail to Avoca Emergency Services.
